Lian "Professor" Lu
Technical Advisor  

 

One of the top FIVB International Coach’s instructor in the world, Professor Lu was a founder and head coach of the Chinese Olympic Junior program, a highly successful program that produced a combined FIVE World and Olympic Championship teams.  He has conducted over 150 volleyball camps and clinics in more than 30 countries throughout the U.S. Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.

In 1994, Dr. Lu led the Cal State Northridge Matadors women’s team to a NIVC National Championship.  Again, in 1996, he led the Lady Matadors to a first place finish (18 – 0) in the Big Sky Conference Championship.   Dr. Lu was voted coach of the year. Lu served as the head coach of the Mexican National team for 3 years.  An excellent setter, Lu served as captain of the Beijing professional team and won numerous national and international titles.

In 2002 and 2003 he was director in both India and Thailand International courses.  His Chinese training secrets excited the world of volleyball.

This year Professor Lu is allowing us the honor of being South Valley's Technical Advisor.

Rebecca Chase

Summer Clinics

Rebecca is originally from Sacramento where she played club volleyball on a traveling team for ten years.  She played in National qualifiers in places like Colorado, Las Vegas, Missouri, Texas, Maryland, Reno (Nevada), and many more. As a Freshman in high school she was the starting right side hitter on the Varsity team.  In her sophomore and junior years she played right side all around in the Junior Olympics in the open division, competing against the top 24 teams in the nation. In her senior year she switched from her club team Delta Valley  to Gold Cal Jr's.   Where she played most of the season but was unable to finish the season due to an injury.  After high school she took a couple years off of playing.  In those years she refereed for NCVA and high school ball.  When she moved to Los Angeles in early 2006 she coached at Immaculate Heart in the fall and South valley in the spring.  In the fall 2007 she played for Santa Monica as the starting outside hitter.  Now she is fired up for the 2008 season at South Valley!

Cameela Cruz
2007 -08 Team:  12's (Jr. Coach)  

 

Cameela lives in Woodland Hills and attends El Camino Real High School as a Senior.  A born athlete, Cameela's premiere sport is track.  She didn't begin playing volleyball until her high school Junior year where she earned a spot on the JV team as a serve specialist.  An over acheiver and born leader, Cameela wasn't satisfied with her contribution as serve specialist.  She worked hard over the 2007 summer and earned her spot as a starting middle blocker on the 2007 Varsity Team.   While not playing volleyball Cameela enjoys serving on ECR's Student Council as a Senior Cabinet member.

Mike Del Homme

2007 -08 Team:  14-2, 16-2 &18's

 

Administratively, Mike joins South Valley Volleyball as Co-Director and Operations Manager.  Born and raised in the South Bay, Mike earned a football scholarship to CSU Fullerton.  Since then, Mike has been teaching P.E. and coaching at the elementary, middle and high school level for over 20 years.  Mike is Impact certified and a CAP1 coach through USA Volleyball.  For the past 5 years Mike directed and coached at a volleyball club in the San Fernando Valley.  Mike's 14-1's teams finished in the top 27 at the Volleyball Festival for the past three years.  Mike currently heads the womens volleyball program at Immaculate Heart High School and is the assistant head boys volleyball coach at Chaminade College Preparatory.

Katie Glomb
2007 -08 Team:  16-1  

 

Originally from Northern California,. She played her freshman year at Loyola Marymount University as the starting Libero.  She just completed her 2007 Fall seaon with Santa Monica City college as their starting outside hitter.

Janelle Lau
2007 -08 Team:  12's  

 

Janelle was born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii where she played for Ho'opili, Punahou High School, Kamali'i O Manalo'a and Kawaiha'o VBC.   While attending USC she played for the USC Women's Club Team.  Janelle's coaching career began one year at Punahou while home from college on summer break.  For 5 years she coached numerous youth and junior teams in the San Fernando Valley.  In 2005 she co-founded South Valley Volleyball with business partner Daniel Kurtz.  Aside from her Director's position with South Valley, Janelle recently completed her second year as the girls head coach at El Camino Real and is looking forward to another successful season coaching the 12's.

Sarah Maggin
2007 -08 Team:  12's (Jr. Coach)  

 

 

Sarah currently resides in West Hills and attends El Camino Real High School as a Junior.  She recently completed her second season as a starter for the ECR Varsity team.  After picking up volleyball as a sophomore in 2006, Sarah earned Second Team honors for the Los Angeles City Section West Valley League.  She currently plays on South Valley's 18's and helps coach 8-12 yr. olds in South Valley's volleyball League.

Ashley Murray
League Team, Summer Clinic

 

Ashley hails from Granada Hills High School.  During her junior and senior years she recieved First-Team League honers.  As a senior she was named League MVP, the first in her school to receive such an honor and was awarded CIF Los Angeles City Section second team honors.  She continued her early college career at Pierce College under the tutelage of Nabil Mardini where she was awarded Second Team All-Conference honors in 2006.  Recently, she completed her 2007 Fall seaon at New Mexico Highlands University.  Ashley's younger sister Vanessa also coaches for South Valley.

Vanessa Murray
2007 -08 Team:  14-2, 16-2 & 18's

 

Vanessa played at Grant High School where she was awarded CIF Los Angeles City Section first team honors.  Vanessa  just completed her 2007 Fall seaon with Pierce College in which her team won their 7th straight Western Conference Championship..

Vivian Nguyen
2007 -08 Team:  14's  

 

Vivian is originally from San Diego.  She currently resides in Los Angeles and attends UCLA where she is a pre-med student. While growing up in San Diego she played for Rancho Bernardo High and San Diego Volleyball Club.  She was the assistant coach for SDVC's 12's from 2004-05 and refereed for the Rancho Bernardo Women's VB League from 2003-05.  This is Vivian's second year coaching the 14-1's for South Valley.
